BHB brings experts together for Mini Expo
24 November 2017

Key speaker, Professor Lutz Beckert-Head of Department of Department of Medicine of the University of Otago and Respiratory Physician at Canterbury DHB, not only presented during the expo but also delivered a professional development session to our team and our invited guest, the Clinical Nurse Specialists from the DHB.

Professor Lutz Beckert-Head of Department of Department of Medicine of the University of Otago and Respiratory Physician at Canterbury DHB, presents at our mini expo.

There were a number of trade stands for attendees to peruse including representatives from Breathing and Medical, Health Hawke’s Bay, Child Health Team and the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation.

Dr Sarah Currie, Paediatrician at Hawke’s Bay Hospital and BHB Medical Advisor, opened the public session on childhood bronchiolitis. Dr Dan Garner, Respiratory and Sleep Physician at Hawke’s Bay Hospital and BHB Medical Advisor, then presented on Sleep Apnoea in Adults with  Professor Beckert finishing up the session covering Asthma management. Following this first session Allison Cowell, Nutritionist from Healthy Options, ran a workshop for those interested. The feedback was that the event was very informative and interesting.

Our speakers adjusted their presentations for our second session; aimed at health professionals. The focus was now on how to treat and manage individuals with respiratory disease.

Feedback from both sessions was overwhelmingly positive with the general theme being it was great to hear from a varied group of presenters and  the information shared was interesting and pertinent.
We consider this type of information sharing fundamental to ensuring our services follow best practice and latest guidelines. BHB are looking forward to offering a similar opportunity in 2018 so watch this space!
